Feeders

Line Loss (1)

  • Open wire and ladderline are very low loss lines – about 0.15dB per 30m into a matched load at 28 MHz (insignificant loss)
  • Attenuation (loss) in coax is higher than in open wire line due to the solid dielectric
  • Loss in a matched line increases with increasing frequency;  for coax 1dB per 30m at 10 MHz rising to 3.3dB at 100 MHz for typical RG58-U (3.3dB – over half the power is dissipated in the feeder)
